Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore is weighing in on the proposed Islamic Community Center in New York City, stirring the the pot by saying he doesn’t want it to be built near Ground Zero but rather on Ground Zero.
“I want it built on Ground Zero. Why? Because I believe in an America that protects those who are the victims of hate and prejudice,” Moore writes in an open letter on his website. “I believe in an America that says you have the right to worship whatever God you have, wherever you want to worship.
“And I believe in an America that says to the world that we are a loving and generous people and if a bunch of murderers steal your religion from you and use it as their excuse to kill 3,000 souls, then I want to help you get your religion back. And I want to put it at the spot where it was stolen from you,” he added.
The filmmaker is also urging his supporters to contribute money to help fund the controversial project and is pledging to match up to $10,000 in donations.

I dont think he actually wants it built there, i think he is just trying to make a point. Dont take everything you read so literally.
“Because I believe in an America that protects those who are the victims of hate and prejudice”
— so how about protecting the feelings of the families whose loved ones were KILLED because of hate and prejudice?
And why is he so sure that these Muslims are the ones against radical islam? How does anyone really know?
Hey, Mr. Moore, you may just be taken seriously if you add, “and I’ll set up an oversight committee to make sure that not one penny of the funding comes from those who are ‘stealing the religion.’ Oh, and here’s my criteria for religion stealers.”
This actually makes sense as one of the things that was destroyed in the attack on the Towers was a Muslim prayer room.
#4 charlie – OOOOOOhhh, that is soooooo sad, a moslem prayer room was destroyed…. oy oy oy, nebach.
I also heard by the way, that THREE THOUSAND HUMAN BEINGS were murdered by those savages!!! Tens of thousands of spouses, and parents, and children’s lives were destroyed forever!!! What are you thinking to even mention some “prayer room”?!?! Read my lips… NO ONE COULD POSSIBLY CARE LESS!!!
This anti-American imbecile moore is just looking for publicity and I’m sorry that YWN has given it to him.
Hm, any minyanim ever held in the WTC?
Calls to mind Dennis Miller’s line about the mosqueowitz.
Sick guy – must be Jewish!
I think that we should build in and around the big apple as many Mosque’s possible.. so that our haters think 2X before they do a kaboom! Ah Keppy NO??
…actually, the peace-loving Muslims are the ones that Hi-jacked the religion.
…just saying, apparently, he doesn’t know anything about the history of Islam.
@#7 – maier,
What’s that supposed to mean “He must be Jewish”? I don’t think any Jew would have the gall to give that kind of a suggestion!
This guy has a lot of chutzpah. And to post such a thing the day following 9/11. Maybe he should first lose some loved ones to a terrosit attack, and then we’ll see how quick he’ll be to suggest building a mosque on Ground Zero.
& I just want to add, if this whole mosque thing does end up going through, it’ll be an extremely dark day for American history.
#4 there were much more bathrooms in the world trade center than mosques. Maybe we should we build 111 story bathroom?
