1:00PM EST: The Apple Bank on 13th Avenue and 45th Street was robbed at gunpoint just moments ago, and ended with an attempted carjacking and shots fired by the suspects.
13th Avenue 46th Street through 48th Street has been shut down.
Dozens of NYPD & Shomrim are searching for the suspect.
UPDATE 1:07PM EST: NYPD advises that they have one suspect in custody on 12th Avenue & 48th Street, but it is not confirmed that he is the correct suspect. Police are conducting an extensive “perp-search” at this time.
UPDATE 1:09PM EST: The attempted carjacking occurred on 48th Street between 12th & 13th Avenue’s.
UPDATE 1:12PM EST: Numerous K9 Units from the NYPD have been dispatched.

A Brooklyn bank was robbed at gunpoint this afternoon by two men, who fired their weapons before they carjacked a vehicle, police and witnesses said.
The robbery at the Apple Bank on 13th Avenue near the corner of 46th Street in Borough Park took place at about 12:30 p.m.
After robbing the bank, in which one of the men fired his gun into the air, the thieves attempted a carjacking on 48th Street between 12th and 13th avenues. They eventually dumped the car a few blocks away and fled on foot.
Shlomo Kirshner, 23, was inside the bank when the robbery took place.
“The guy was wearing a ski mask and a dark colored sweatshirt. He had a black 9mm gun,” he said. “The guy came in with a gun. He screamed, ‘Everybody down. It’s a holdup.’
“He was waving the gun. He came over and he shot upwards. He was screaming, ‘Give me the money.’ He took not even a dollar, No one gave him anything. The whole thing lasted a minute. The tellers were on the floor. One guy ran out as they were doing the holdup. He made sure everybody was down and then he ran out.”
No one was injured.
Police caught one suspect and are still searching for the other.

Just moments ago? This story came in shortly after 12 on all news sites while YW didn’t mention it yet. I’m very disappointed.
I hope nobody (besides the gun weilding maniac) gets hurt.

Now you tell me: When it occurred in Williamsburg, it was at the outskirts and at night. It happened in Flatbush, well that too was on Nostrand Ave. and at night. This occurred in broad daylight, smack in the middle of Boro Park, and Biden will come tell me the economy is doing fine?
13th Avenue and 45-48th Street has one of the lowest crime record in the city, and it happened there – the economy sucks more than ever. Perhaps this too is Mr. Bush’s fault, or maybe the Arizona law. I felt the recession (say depression!) this year more than ever (and the report on YWN this morning told me I’m not the only one). I say give the keys back to the GOP and go R! With the direction we’re heading, who still wants to go any more? Throw the bums out!

That’s quite interesting, because I am one of those who called 911, and my called Id shows 12:29, and than again at 12:33.
The real action didn’t start until 12:48’ish.
I work on the block by the way.
The gunshot happened right outside my office and that was around 12:50-1pm so YWN was pretty much on time with the news.

Well, it seems that even after all the action, the perp was not caught. 47th and 48th streets were in lockdown, houses were evacuated, people were locked into stores for over an hour, SWAT teams were called in, but where’s the “gun weilding maniac”? Still on the loose!

Mr. Wheelchair, I admire your compassion of your fellow man, but unfortunately compassion is wasted when its for an individual who can this easily wave loaded guns at others. Why should anyone care if the gunmen hurt themselves?!
The fact that this man “didn’t kill anybody” is only by the grace of G-d. This lowlife carried a loaded weapon into a bankful of people and fired into the air. A gun is a murder weapon, even if you “only” shoot in the air.
