Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver called Tuesday for the developers of the mosque near Ground Zero to find a new, less controversial location.
Silver, who represents the area, said there’s no question the community center project is protected by the Constitution, but said “the sponsors should take into very serious consideration the kind of turmoil” felt by families of 9/11 victims.
“They should find a suitable place that won’t cause the same controversy,” Silver said during a press conference with Gov. Paterson.
“The sponsors ought to consider the circumstances and ought to say, let’s see if we can find someplace suitable.”
