Governor David Paterson says he understands why some people are objecting to plans for a mosque near the World Trade Center side and is offering an alternative to the developers.
Paterson says he has no objections to the controversial mosque and Islamic community center planned at 45 Park Place, he’s also volunteering another site on state-owned property for it to be built.
Paterson would not specify where that site would be, but said there needs to be greater dialogue to try and allay everyone’s fears.
“I don’t have any objection to it being built there, but I’m very sensitive to the desire of those who are adamant against it to see something else worked out,” said the governor. “And frankly, if the sponsors who are looking for property anywhere at a distance that would beseech that, it would accommodate a better feeling among the people who are frustrated, I would look into trying to provide them with the state property they would need.”
One prominent mosque supporter rejected the governor’s trial balloon, saying Paterson’s remarks validate the idea that all Muslims are responsible for what terrorists did on September 11th.

All Moslems are not responsible for the 9-11-01 terrorist massacre, but many — or, perhaps, most — Moslems are insensitive to the feelings of the families of the victims.
Furthermore, the sponsor of the mosque has funded terrorist activities.
Paterson’s idea is a good one. It’s sort of like calling their bluff.
This is outrageous. Taxpayers shouldn’t fund this wherever it is. They don’t fund building synagogues and churches, why mosques? We shouldn’t offer them incentives to move this ‘9/11-Hijackers-Memorial elsewhere but investigate it! Let them demand an inquiry to know where the funding is coming from and know what the intentions of this development are. This Imam is one shady figure, one that blamed the US for his people’s despicable acts of 9/11. He won’t say that Hamas is a terror organization and lied multiple times about the building of this mosque. This should be stopped. Period. Why does America have a double-standard when it comes to Muslims? Why do we look away just to be politically-correct?!

All the synagogues in my neighborhood are bursting at the seams. Could the governor find some state owned land around here for us to build a new one?

Actually, taxpayers do fund synagogues and churches. Houses of worship do not pay property taxes or for water and sewer usage. Contributions to these charities are also tax deductable. Synagogues and churches are entitled to many other benefits which are not offered to the ordinary taxpayer.
