The Nassau County police department has issued a traffic advisory in Woodmere due to an overturned gas tanker.
Peninsula Boulevard and Woodmere Boulevard are closed in both directions. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
Residents have been evacuated from their homes in a 5 block radius, and sources tell YWN that at least 2,000 gallons of fuel have spilled out of the tanker after a tree punctured the tanker.
Numerous departments are on scene, and foam is being sprayed on the spill.
The tanker is reportedly holding 10,000 gallons of fuel.

How do they know how many gallons of fuel spilled out of the tanker?
avoid any roads that go east/west. also the whole academy area and the YIW area is pretty much gridlocked. Jews are mostly civil. Other ‘outside elements’ are not.
The tanker hit a branch while traveling on Peninsula Blvd, causing it to rupture the tanker.
The truck didn’t overturn.
I have to give kudos to Yeshiva world being on of the only places that I have been able to find out information on the matter. I happen to live a block away, was not evacuated (nor knew anything about it) and despite the lack of traffic life has been going on as usual. All of the local day camps are running as scheduled (despite being within the 5 block range) and by the public school which is undergoing a major facelift, I can hear the workers and their power tools as if nothing is different. so I don’t think this ‘evacuation’ was being handled too well.
