Project Inspire’s Tisha B’Av Presentation Shows The Ability We All Have to End This Bitter Golus

Every Thursday, Jeremy and Chana Staiman load their car with fresh challahs and piping hot kugel. This food will be gone by the time they return home later that evening. No, they don’t work as the grocery delivery staff. They are delivering spiritual delicacies to their uninvolved Jewish brothers and sisters at the local mall.

The young secular Israelis, manning the mall’s many pagodas and kiosks, already expect the visit of these Baltimore residents – ready to enjoy both their food and their company.  Their friendship might seem unlikely, but the easy-flowing conversations and friendly smiles show the genuine warmth of their relationship.

Ironically, this might be the first meaningful encounter with religious Jews that these born and bred Sabras ever had. These visits from Jeremy and his frum family break down the barriers of stereotypes and ignorance, creating a new reality and opening new vistas for everyone involved.

The idea for the Thursday night visits to the mall was born last year while watching Project Inspire’s Tisha B’Av film, One Soul. During the video presentation, Jeremy and Chana were struck by the terrible toll that assimilation and ignorance has taken on Klal Yisroel and realized that they must do something about it. “You couldn’t watch that film and not feel that you had to do something.” They decided to help reverse this trend – one kiosk at a time.

This year, Jeremy will once again take part in the Project Inspire presentation – this time as one of the five men who will share their story in the new Tisha B’Av Video Presentation, Wiping A Tear.

Slated to be shown in more than 300 locations across the country free of charge and available free on the www.kiruv.com website on the day of Tisha B’Av, this new Project Inspire video will once again show the ability we all have to end this bitter golus.
