Thirty-seven cabbies caught overcharging chose to surrender their hack licenses rather than face a judge, The NY Post reports.
The Taxi and Limousine Commission said the 37 were among the worst of the 21,000 drivers who overcharged passengers by $1.1 million. They charged the double-rate suburban fare within the city limits “We continue to make progress with adjudicating the worst offenders, confident in the knowledge that the alert system is in place system-wide to protect riders going forward,” said TLC Commissioner David Yassky.
Approximately 191 other drivers have already had one hearing scheduled, and 132 are slated to begin hearings soon, according to the TLC.
