Brownouts were in effect in parts of Brooklyn and Queens Wednesday, but many hardly noticed any change in power at all.
“A brownout is no lights go out but you might notice dimness in lights or some motors might not function like always do, but everything is still in service. In fact for many customers it could be invisible, but a blackout is lights out,” said John Miksad, Con Ed’s Vice President.
In this record breaking scorcher, the company says so far the power grid has been strong enough to withstand this heat wave. There have been small pockets of power outages throughout the city, and dozens of crews have been added on 12-hour shifts to deal problems as soon as they may spark.
