Sizzling Heat Kicks off the Fourth of July in East

While the weather will stay dry for Fourth of July festivities in the East this year, people across the region will have to deal with sizzling heat. Temperatures will be on the rise throughout the holiday weekend with a dangerous heat wave unfolding Sunday through the middle of next week.

For most people, the upcoming heat wave will just require taking extra precautions such as drinking plenty of water and perhaps forgoing some outdoor activities.

Further preventative measures will need to be taken for people who are more sensitive to extreme heat, especially the elderly and young children, to safeguard against heat-related illnesses.

By Sunday, high temperatures will soar well into the 90s along the Interstate 95 corridor from New York City to Richmond, Va. Highs in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., will be near 100, while Boston reaches the lower 90s.

Temperatures will also rise into the 90s farther west in places such as Pittsburgh, Buffalo, N.Y., Cincinnati, Ohio, and Charleston, W.Va.

While Sunday will be a hot one, the worst of the heat wave will kick in early next week as humidity levels start to rise.

AccuWeather temperatures, which provide a measure of how hot it will feel with humidity factored in, will reach 100 degrees in many places, including New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., both Monday and Tuesday.
