A five-alarm fire at a kitchen cabinet warehouse in Brooklyn has forced people out of their homes and disrupted subway service Friday morning, as the fire has been burning since just after 6 p.m. Thursday.
Police are calling the fire on Evergreen Avenue in Bushwick suspicious because of the volume of flames that erupted so quickly.
“The contents and the cement roof made it very difficult to actually hit the seed of the fire,” said FDNY firefighter Patrick Clifford, adding that fighting the fire is an outside, exterior operation because the flames present too dangerous of a situation.
There were over 200 firefighters on scene throughout the night.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries in fighting the fire and was taken to New York Hospital.
While subway service is slowly returning to normal, passengers on the L train may still see delays and disruptions.
