11:00AM EST: [Updates below] The Lakehurst Naval Air Station section of the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst went into lockdown at about 9:15AM Monday morning.

All media outlets report is “Officials are investigating an incident at the base. The nature of the incident has not been released.”

The lockdown was briefly applied to the Dix and McGuire sections of the base, but is now in effect only at Lakehurst, Carbajal said shortly before 11 a.m.

UPDATE 11:07AM EST: According to Trentonian News, officials locked down the Naval Air Station after reports of shots being fired by a perpetrator.

Currently, a manhunt with a K-9 unit is under way for a man who jumped the naval station’s fence.

Authorities are also looking for a FedEx truck that came onto the base without delivering a package. Allegedly the driver is in possession of a .38 handgun.

The New Jersey state Police Aviation unit, a SWAT Team and federal officers are conducting the manhunt. Officials have established a command post on Route 547 as they attempt to track the alleged shooter.

UPDATE From NBC New York 11:12AM EST: Median Relations Coordinator Senior Airman David Carbajal says there were several incidents Monday which he is not yet able to provide more information about. Carbajal says no shots were fired.

UPDATE 3:58PM EST from WPIX: A FedEx delivery driver with a gun was one of at least two incidents that happened at a Navy base in Lakehurst, New Jersey that prompted a lock down Monday morning, PIX 11 News has learned.

Base spokeswoman Angel Lopez says security forces detained a delivery driver at a base entrance gate at the Naval Air Engineering Center after he told them that he had a gun for personal protection. He was given a ticket and released, she said.

At around the same time, someone reported hearing shots fired at another entrance gate. Lopez says security forces did not find any sign that a gun had been fired and believe the report was unfounded.

The lock down at the New Jersey naval base went in to effect at around 9:15 a.m. following the incidents described as “simultaneous,” officials said. The lock down was lifted about an hour later.

Shortly after the lock down was issued, Media Relations Coordinator Senior Airman David Carbajal issued a statement saying base personnel were not in danger. He confirmed that several incidents took place Monday that sparked the lock down, but could not provide any further details.
