Emanuel Mayor Ezra Garashi told Kol Chai Radio that the city’s social workers has been in contact with the families, all of those who names appear on the arrest warrants, taking the necessary steps to find solutions for those of the 250 children who do not have grandparents or others to take care of them while parents are in jail.
Garashi added the incarceration of all of the parents is bizarre, but he points out that in most of the cases the children will be placed with grandparents or other family members. He remains hopeful that the court today, Sunday, June 20th, will make the “right decision” and that chareidi MKs will work to lower the flames of dispute and return to dialogue towards finding a solution.
Garashi admits that if we cannot know from one day to the next what will be happening, it is indeed difficult to predict how this entire unfortunate incident and the accompanying media fanfare will impact the community at large.
He adds that to the best of his knowledge, the girls the Emanuel Parents remain at home, and they are not learning in any yeshiva.
He concluded with saying he is concerned regarding next year and all those girls who missed so much school material.
