Rockland Population Expected To Grow By Over 8 Percent In Next 10 Years

Monsey, NY – A population project study says Rockland County’s population is projected to grow to nearly 320,000 people by 2010, an increase of almost 24,000 people. Between 2005 and 2020, the population would increase by 8.1 percent, according to the study.

The study also said by 2035, the county’s population is expected to increase by 49,000 people, a 16.6 percent increase from 2005 to 2035.

The projected increase would include an increase of more than 12,000 in the number of seniors 65 and over, a 33 percent increase in that population, from around 36,400 to over 48,000 seniors between 2005 and 2020.  The increase would also include 4,000 more youths under 18, a nearly five percent increase from about 82,400 to over 86,000, between 2005 and 2010.

The Cornell University Program on Applied Demographics, in conjunction with the county’s Planning Development, developed the population projects.
