Oorah’s BoyZone will be able to continue building in Jefferson, NY. The final Order and Judgment of Judge Devine, rendered this week, brought great relief to the dozens of employees at Oorah’s camp grounds in Scotch Valley, many of them residents of Jefferson and the surrounding towns, as well as to the hundreds of Oorah volunteers who have been preparing for the forthcoming camp season.
The NY State judge essentially found the building permits that were issued to Oorah Resorts LLC on May 13 valid, rendering the Town’s objections moot. Initial permits had been issued by Michael Schwarzkopf, the Code Enforcement Officer and Building Inspector for the Town of Jefferson, but challenged by the Town Supervisor Dan Singletary, who assumed office in January, 2010.
“This is not only a victory for Oorah, it’s a victory for Jefferson Township—its residents and businesses,” said Yehudah Meth, a spokesman for Oorah. “From the time we first purchased the old Scotch Valley ski resort to this very moment, we have sought to do good work in Jefferson. What we’re building benefits everyone, including the town. A battle was won but the war, so to speak, is not over. Further permits have to be issued and we’re hoping the town supervisor will be more cooperative now. But despite any obstacles, our goal remains the same: To provide hundreds of disadvantaged Jewish kids with a high-quality summer that will benefit them b’ruchnius u’b’gashmious.”
