Two eastern Jerusalem Arab residents, minors, were arrested by police on Thursday. They are suspected of recently smashing and damaging 25 tombstones on Har HaZeisim. They explained they smashed the marble to extract copper, which they sell for its value by weight.
The magistrate’s court extended their remand for only one day, explaining they do not pose a threat to the public. Police appealed to the district court, which supported the lower court’s decision.
