British Citizen Named in Dubai Murder Investigation

Dubai Police Chief Dahi Khalfan Tamim appears to be moving ahead with the investigation into the assassination of senior Hamas officials Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in a local hotel. The police chief has pointed a finger of blame at Israel’s Mossad Intelligence Agency, but Israel has not accepted responsibility.

Shortly after being appointed to his new post, Britain’s new Foreign Secretary, William Hague, is compelled to address accusations from Tamim that the 19th suspect being sought in the assassination is a British national. Unlike some of the other assassins who Tamim reported used forged British passports, this suspect was using a genuine passport.

The Independent on Sunday reported the name of the British subject is on file, but it is not being published, stating the subject was born in 1948, and the passport is dated 24 October 2007, and it is valid for 11 years. The report describes the suspect as a “Jewish Palestinian who migrated to the UK just after the Second World War”.

The suspect has also recently visited Canada and France, and is seen clearly on surveillance tapes parking a rental car in the area of the hotel ahead of the assassination.

This latest information will add additional tensions to the already strained diplomatic relations between Israel and Britain. Britain has already expelled Israel’s Mossad representative as was reported by YWN-ISRAEL and a recent attempt to assign a new Israeli emissary was met by British opposition.
