Porush Comments on Learning ‘Core Subjects’

Speaking with Kol Chai Radio on Sunday afternoon, Deputy Education Minister Meir Porush was asked to comment on Sunday’s petition to the High Court of Justice to compel chareidi mosdos to learn so-called ‘core subjects’ such as English, science and math, as was reported by YWN-ISRAEL on erev shabbos.

Porush questions “Why should they have the right to dictate to us how to act, how to educate our children, how to conduct our lifestyle”, citing “if their example was one to emulate, then one could possibly have a viable argument but their schools are full of violence and crime and they are a far cry from an acceptable example”.

Porush does not believe the high court’s justices will be too anxious to undertake this petition and address the norms of the state education system and the chareidi schools, lacking the core subjects.

  1. The issue isn’t the “core subjects” per se, since many if not most frum people learn them anyways. The issue is the zionists demand that they be taught in a way that interferes with learning Torah.

  2. Please tell me.
What is wrong with our children learn the “core subjects”.
They are a useful tool for earning parnosoh
