Two off-duty NYPD officers were killed early Sunday morning in a horrific car crash on the Bronx River Parkway.
The cause of the crash was unknown, but four other occupants were transported to Jacobi Hospital, some in critical condition.
The 2009 Nissan Altima slammed into a guardrail and overturned near the 233rd St. exit around 6:30 a.m., police said.
There were four people ejected from the vehicle, and two other heavily entrapped in the wreckage. The two officers were reportedly pronounced DOA at the scene. It was unknown if they were ejected from the vehicle or not.
Mayor Bloomberg told the NY Post that the tragedy was especially difficult to bear on a morning when another NYPD officer – this one on duty – was hit by a motorcycle and seriously injured.
“It would appear that it’s just a tragic accident and two police officers off-duty were killed,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “This investigation [is] ongoing. And to come on a day where you saw a police officer get hit by a motorcycle while he was chasing somebody…This just makes it so much worse somehow or other. It’s the same day but it’s a tragedy and from what we know so far it was just an accident.”

Can you please stop saying “DOA at the scene”? DOA stands for r”l dead on arrival, as in, at the hospital. Thank you.
Oh! another expert….DOA at the scene makes perfect sense. They were “Dead On Arrival” – Arrival of whatever resources would have helped them at the scene of the accident” had they been viable… Dude, sounds like you did’t quite get good grades in grammer.
tragic?
To Mr. Balabos. It’s funny how you talk about other people. Check your own spelling and you will realize dude that you didn’t get such great marks either if you spell “grammer” the way you did. How about spelling it this way. Grammar.
So the next time you try to put someone else down, look in the mirror at yourself first.
DOA means when they get to hospital OR when the first responders get there.
“And to come on a day where you saw a police officer get hit by a motorcycle while he was chasing somebody…This just makes it so much worse somehow or other”. Does he mean to tell me he doesn’t know how it makes it so much worse?!? Just SOMEHOW OR ANOTHER?!?
two officers were in the cruiser, correct?
four other occupants were in the car, correct?
