New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio touted his plans to address the city’s “affordability crisis” during his annual State of the City address.
In his address Monday night at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, the Democratic mayor discussed his concern that New Yorkers are afraid they can’t afford to live in the city they love.
His plan includes a mansion tax on high-end real estate sales that would help pay for affordable housing for seniors and an initiative to provide free legal advice for tenants facing eviction in housing court.
Besides affordable housing, the mayor said he’s working to create more good-paying jobs in the city by providing training and support.
The mayor also made room to praise his efforts to make the city safer and the schools stronger.

if this poor excuse for a “mayor” wants to make NY affordable, have him issue a directive to the NYPD and other NY agencies not to flood the towm with tickets for nonsense violations just in order to make money for the city. also, his idea of a “mansion tax for high end real estate sales”. oh, really? would he consider boro park and flatbush an area with housing costing upwards of $1M an area that would qualify for this “mansion tax”? if he does, then Boro Park/Flatbush…watch out!

@kollelman where does it say that his ideas are innovative? And what’s the big deal with a bigger tax on the rich?
@chaiml how often do you see police giving out tickets for nonsense, is it when they ticket double parked cars, when they ticket you for speeding, running a stop sign? Where are your nonsense tickets? Also it sounds like the tax is on new sales, so if you’re willing to pay a 50% premium on a house in Flatbush or Borough Park, then you’ll need to pay a tax to the city for causing prices to rise.
