John F. Kennedy International Airport implemented a full ground stop Thursday morning as a major snowstorm already blamed for nearly 2,000 flight cancellations at area airports and hundreds of accidents punished the region.
About 5 inches of snow had fallen at the Queens hub by 10 a.m., and the airport said it was closing all four runways to assist with snow removal efforts. At least one of the runways was expected to reopen before noon.
