Hundreds of Yeshiva Bochrim affiliated with the Peleg Yerushalmi took to the streets around the country on Monday night, forcing the closure of roads, highways, stopping buses, and inconveniencing tens of thousands of people.

They are protesting the arrest of a Yeshiva Bochur who was arrested at an anti-IDF protest on Sunday evening. The young man is affiliated with the Peleg Yerushalami which do not report to induction centers to register as per the instructions of HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach Shlita.

According to the Tuesday 11 Shevat edition of HaPeles, the Yerushalmi branch newspaper, the young man was arraigned in the Jerusalem Magistrate Court and released to house arrest with restrictions — but instead of releasing him, he was handed over to military police, who learned he is wanted for failing to report for service and is now being held without bail in a military jail.

This prompted the massive protests on Tuesday evening, some of which turned violent.

Israel Police report that around 50 protesters were arrested – including one minor who assaulted a police officer which left him with a bloody face.

  1. Arresting these ungrateful, violent batlanim is an insufficient beginning. They must be tried and fined as heavily as the law will allow. Jail sentences will not deter them. Significant fines might.

  2. Those arrested should immediately be inducted into the IDF. After all, they’re obviously not learning full-time if they have time to run around in the streets.

  3. I don’t see their Rabbonim who instructed them to go out on the street. Obviously those foolish kids did not come out on the own, and were instructed, causing major Hillul Hashem, damaging property, hitting police (I assume last photo on the face of a cop is not a ketchup). What a perfect Chinuch lesson to the youngsters who instead of being in the bed, for some reason are out on the street at dark hours without parents. I am sure some here on YWN would call it a great Kiddush Hashem and a and a victory against Tzionim, but what happens of one of those “Dummies” sitting in the middle of the street in dark time (dress in all black) is ran over by an innocent person who just happened to be driving a looking away. It’s obviously that so far what police did to those protesters did not work, so time has come to change rules so next time this people think they own the street and can start their “having good time” there are serious consequences.

  4. Neither jail or fines will deter them because they are following the psak of their Rov and acting l’sheim shomayim. When that is your driving motive nothing the zionists do will stop you.

  5. The authorities are doing the best advertisement for the Peleg and showing the true face of their racism against chareidim and police brutality. After all, 50% secular draft dodgers are not forced to join – because there’s no need to secularize them, obviously. The authorities are shooting themselves in the foot.

#2 and secularize them, huh? According to your logic, those who are not in yeshiva should become Jewish goyim.

#3 If anything’s a kiddush Hashem it’s these yeshiva boys protesting the drafting to the shmad army into the spiritual Auschwitz. #5 said it well.

  6. #3 – alexfromny – With Rabbenu Tam nacht in Yerushalayim at 6.30pm, not sure entirely how realistic getting an entire Yeshiva to bed by nightfall is???!!

  7. There is no kiddush Hashem in violent protesting; the contrary is true. Frum Yidden need to say it out loud- “these hooligans are acting against Torah” regardless of the army draft. They are violently protesting the arrest of another violent protester- where’s the kiddush Hashem?? They are just a group of action-seeking misled shallow dummies. They’re “Rav”
    should stop them.

  8. # 5. The best and funniest thing you said was in the end

#5 said it well. (but I got it you meant # 4, so you missed math class while in school, I guess you were outside protesting Zionists)

I like your term Jewish goyim? Did you made it up? I actually seen many more so called “Jewish Goyim” who did for Am Isroel and other people more then you and people like you put together. So please don’t label anyone who is less frum than you a Goy, because no one made you a judge and there is no Tshuva on calling another Yid that word.

#6 I don’t mean they have to be literally in the bed (although I see very little ones on video as well), but they should be off the street and at least on sidewalk like normal people, or they think traffic laws are only for “Jewish Goyim”.

  9. Those bochurim are laughing. They think this is a joke. Without the IDF, they would not be able to learn in eretz Yisroel.
How dare anyone protest the IDF.
    Ungrateful, spoiled entitled .

  10. Its good to see the police showing some backbone and putting their boots down (literally) on the necks of these hooligans who break the law, disrupt the public, destroy property and commit such a chilul hashem. More important is why the police have not gone after those rabbonim and askanim who encourage these violent demonstrations. Rav Auerbach et. al. absolutely have the right to promote peaceful resistance to the draft but those who promote civil disobedience should pay the price.

  11. SONEI HATORAH!!! These Bachurim are the royalty of Klal Yisroel, and are making a Kiddish Hashem. The Gedolim paskened this is what they should do, it’s nice that you all believe you can judge the situation better than them. Notice it is at night so what Torah are they bataling? Besides for the fact they would be allowed to protest even at midday if the gedolim so said. Shame on you American ballebatim you have the blatant chutzpah to counter the psak of gedolim. The Tzionim treat the arabs better than they treat they’re own bretheren.

  12. #8 Alexfromny: you wrote,”because no one made you a judge.” But, of course, you were appointed by HKBH to judge people in a situation you barely understand.” That’s rich.
#11 Gadol: wow, you’ve really outdone yourself this time. Calling for the police to “go after rabbonim and askanim who encourage these violent demonstrations.” I can assure you that just a knock at their door by the police will unleash a wave of protest throughout the country that will make what has transpired until now look like child’s play. BTW, do you possess admissible evidence that rabbonim and askanim indeed encouraged these demos? Or, perhaps you feel it’s OK to dispense with such legal niceties when dealing with the sector of the Jewish community that is closest to your heart?
A final remark to all the halacha experts who comment that whatever they dislike qualifies as a “chilul Hashem.” Sorry to break it to you all, but not everything you dislike constitutes a chilul Hashem. It’s a halachic concept that has it’s own rules. Just because a person does something you don’t like, doesn’t make him guilty of committing a chilul Hashem. Why is everyone suddenly allowed to judge others? Especially when it’s from thousands of miles away?

  13. It is crazy to see how people can be so biased,
there is no such a draft in the entire world only in Israel,
and the all ppl are going nuts about the image of the police with the bloody face while ignoring much worse conditions with the protesters by other protests.

  14. The police should send female officers to arrest them. Maybe they’ll be more frum about negiah than they are about shedding the blood of another Jew.

  15. #4,avreimi, perhaps the Rav and his psak were wrong.

#5,Arye, two of my kids were in the IDF and managed quite well, without becoming “Jewish goyim.” Don’t talk about things when you know nothing about them.

  16. Arye -where do you get that statistic from, 50% of seculars are draft dodgers? and how do you know nothing is done about it?

Also, no one is being forced to join the army, people are only arrested if they refuse to submit the necessary documents which allow them to defer, which is against the advice of Reb Steinman

  17. just to set the score straight a good macha is made up of about 50 real protesters and 200 onlookers many of them, your children that are taking in the great avira darah.

  18. Well I do not live abroad and I know about the total bitul torah and unnecessary disruption that took place. Why is bringing all transport to a near halt a kidush Hashem?? How many people missed their learning sedarim as a result. And how many people could not attend family/ friends simchas?? This is total chaos and disruption and shows up chareidim in the worst light!! Rav Steinman, may he be well, has never endorsed this behaviour.
