The Ministerial Law Committee on Sunday gave its approval to a bill authored by MK Moshe Gafne to permit batei din affiliated with the Chief Rabbinate of Israel to adjudicate monetary disputes providing both sides are in agreement. Today, the batei din are limited to gittin.

Hailing the decision as “significant and historic”, Yahadut Hatorah MKs now have to lobby to ensure the bill is passed in Knesset in its three readings to make it law.
