Police have uncovered and prevented attempts to bribe guards patrolling the Jerusalem border area in the hope of obtaining entry permits to work and reside. Among those taken into custody are an attorney and PA (Palestinian Authority) policeman.
An undercover investigation conducted by police during recent weeks led to the arrests of three key figures in the operation, residents of PA areas. The investigation was launched after one of the civilian guards stationed on the city’s border reported to police that an attorney from the PA approached him, offering money in exchange for arranging passage over the Green Line for PA residents. The guard was offered NIS 2,000 for each permit that was issued.
The decision was made to take the undercover investigation public, leading to the arrests.
