Bad weather dashed the hopes of a New Mexico Jewish group that hoped to win a spot in the record books by creating the world’s only menorah made from hot air balloons on the last night of Chanukah.
The event sponsored by Chabad of New Mexico went on anyway, just without the launch of nine balloons that would have created the menorah.
KOB-TV reports the balloonists did use burners normally used to inflate their balloons to re-create the menorah.
Organizer Shai Shelhav says the event at Albuquerque’s Balloon Fiesta Park was still a success and drew support from across the community.
