New Yorkers may be enjoying above freezing temperatures these days, but if our luck turns frosty, officials say they’ve got us covered.
The Department of Sanitation says it’s stocked up on more equipment to clean up the city’s narrow, dead-end streets.
In seasons past, those roads proved to be trouble spots.
New GPS devices were also installed in snow trucks for more precise tracking.
And officials say they’ve redone snow routes — all to ensure streets see plows within two hours.
“The way the routes used to be designed and the way they’re designed now, they’re just more efficient in terms of the number of miles that we’re asking each spreader or each plow to follow,” said Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia.
In addition, 6,400 workers have been given more training, and Sanitation has recruited more workers to take on crosswalks and bus stops.

all I know is what I see, and I see this, I see regular white garbage trucks (not the orange salt spreader/plows) pass with their plow raised and nothing gets cleaned but the GPS says it was cleaned, since they passed it. government at its best.
I’ll give them a chance – let’s see how they handle the first 2 storms. Plowing has been horrible since Bloomberg came in. I assumed it was a “business decision” – tell everyone to stay home and don’t plow on weekends, avoiding overtime pay.
