VIDEO: Pearls Of Wisdom From John Kerry: ‘Israel Can Either Be Jewish Or Democratic, It Cannot Be Both’

kerbi[VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

Secretary of State John Kerry declared Wednesday that Israel “can either be Jewish or democratic” but “it cannot be both.”

Here’s a transcript:

“The truth is that trends on the ground, violence, terrorism, settlement expansion and the seemingly endless occupation, they are combining to destroy hopes for peace on both sides and increasingly cementing any reversible — an irreversible one state reality that most people do not actually want.

Today, there are a similar number of Jews and Palestinians living between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea. They have a choice. They can choose to live together in one state or they can separate into two states. But here is a fundamental reality. If the choice is one state, Israel can either be Jewish or democratic. It cannot be both. And it won’t ever really be at peace.

Moreover, the Palestinians will never fully realize their vast potential in a homeland of their own with a one state solution.”

  1. Kerry was never so anti-Israel when he was in the Senate. Are these his words or he’s just the mouthpiece? I want to see him tell the Palis they need to let yidden live in “their state”.

  2. Given that the world consists of several billion goyim and a few million Jews, and that most goyim are hostile or indifferent to the survival of Jews or Judaisim, it is very hard to make a pro-democracy argument. The same holds true for most minorities. That you are a minority, means there is a majority that doesn’t especially like you. It may be democratic to let the majority “vote you off the island”, but the whole concept of minority rights is that we have a right to stay on the island, no matter what the majority want.

If the Muslims (and particularly the Palestinians) were to agree to the existence of a Jewish state it would change the discussion. But from what one sees in the Middle East, no one is seriously talking about rights for those other than Muslims (and most countries are even fussier, reject those who are the wrong sort of Muslim).

  3. The Palestinians are not a people and have no “rights” to the land. Now we see again the true wisdom of the first Rashi in Chumash; HaShem gave the Jewish people this best of all lands.

  4. John Kerry must’ve forgotten that Arafat rejected every single offer from Ehud Barak, Ehud Olmert and Ariel Sharon. Those offers were basically giving them everything they ever wanted and he still rejected. John Kerry also probably did not hear the radio interview between a Hamas leader and a US talk show. The Hamas animal was asked if they would cease attacking Israelis if they reverted 100% to pre 1967 borders. His answer was- we need to wait and see. So the host pushed him to give a more concrete answer. After all the fumbling his answer was a resounding NO! There you have it Mr. Kerry, it’s the Palestinians who need to choose between remaining in misery or joining the rest of the civilized world.

  5. Agree with all the criticism of Obama/Kerry on the timing of this 11th hour vote and tirade against EY but still haven’t heard any coherent plan that would result in peace without some form of land division with the Palestinians. There is no rational way to “deport” Palestinians from the West Bank any more than we could deport all the undocumented immigrants from the U.S. At some point, there will have to be some recognition that more settlements don’t solve the problem.

  6. #14: I actually heard R’ Meir Kahane HY’D say: “I don’t want a democratic state of Israel; I want a Jewish State of Israel”.

  7. To No. 14

If you recall, Kahane and his chevrah were designated as “terrorist” organization by our national security agencies during a Republican administration. Not a good analogy.

  8. I agree with Kerry.

Israel cannot be both, so the Gov’t of Israel should announce they accept the U.S. Sect’y of State’s suggestion, and E”Y will be Jewish.

As such Every Arab must leave by noon.
The same way Jews were chased out of Arab countries.

    That would go over well

  9. KERRY backwards is Yarok
He is as funny as a talking Yarok… he reminds me of Mr. Potato Head… you could stick all these cutetsy parts into his mouth on his head…Is he a robot or is he a person? Sometimes I just don’t know.

  10. What a racist thing to say. Will John start handing out those yellow stars to those who want to remain Jewish? I never realized how much this duffus hated Jews and their religion.
A perfect solution for the Palestinian “problem”, is send them to one of the many sanctuary cities, here in the US. Chicago, with its WHITE Mayor would be the best choice. That would be a win win situation.

  11. Israel was created to be a JEWISH STATE.

If they want to be democratic, they can let Muslims & Christians live there too with Freedom to practice their own religion. (Which they do) But that doesn’t take away from the Jewish identity of the state.

Now lets go to the Arab countries – Muslim countries. They are welcome to create a land that follows their religion, but if they are to be called Democratic – they need to allow others to live freely & practice their own religion (which they dont)

  12. Big a,

And Kerry forward is happenstance (amaleks motto) which he believes also

In addition Israel wants other nations to view it as a Jewish state and once the Palestinians agree to it there won’t be a reason to house them

  13. The headline is a bit “out of context”. As the article itself points out, he said *if* there is only *one* state, then it can either be Jewish or democratic but not both, which of course is true. If there’s only one state, and the Arabs eventually outpopulate the Jews, then if it’s democratic, and each person gets a vote, then of course they’ll vote to stop being a Jewish state!! Isn’t this davar pashut!? If we have two states, then can basically guarantee that the people voting in it are all or mostly Jews. This sounds pretty pashut.

I guess there is a third option (maybe more), that we have one state and kill or kick out all of the Arabs, thus keeping it Jewish and democratic. Or having one state and only letting Jews vote, but I guess that wouldn’t really be democratic.

  14. Right now there are 1.7 million arabs in Gaza, 2.7 in the “West Bank”, and 1.7 million in Israel itself. Combined, that’s as many people as there are Jews in Israel. If we have one state, then either we’ll need to choose to make it Jewish but not democratic (don’t let arabs vote), or let it be democratic, but then it might not stay Jewish, if in five years their population grows even a bit faster than hours. Sounds pashut to me.

  15. This is what you get, Mr. Kohn, when you convert to Catholicism, and have your son marry a shikse. Are you proud of your idiotic progeny now, wherever in Hell you are at the moment?

  16. It should be lost on no one that nothing happens by accident or coincidence. The Melech orchestrates every aspect and minutia of our lives including the “messages” we hear and when we hear them.

This message, given on Chanukah no less, has sent chills through me. Hashem is talking to US, to YOU.
Eretz Yisroel is a of Kedusha and Tahara and only when we act as Yidden do we deserve and merit to be there!

  17. Re comment 12: Hashem made me Jewish. I made myself a liberal (probably with help from my Jewish parents). Now, tell me, am I Jewish? And if not, why not?

  18. To GH and all other morons who do not understand what is happening and who the enemy is:

JERUSALEM IS CONSIDERED BY THE ENEMY TO BE OCCUPIED LANDS. JERUSALEM.

The bottom line is that Arabs reject peace. Over and over.

  19. kerry declare with a 2 state solution any Israeli can continue to live in the arab side of the border under arab rule. This sis a big lie; first there were never a Palestian people so you must call them Arabs and there is many other Arab statesthey Is can go to. Second abbas himself said no Jew cAN rEMAIN. lsrael never said Arabs can’t remain Abbas did; and stupid kerry disagree with abbas. he is talking through his back side talking orders from a person who thinks he is Jesus

  20. MR CARRIE,

If we choose Torah, and we do, then yes we can all democratically vote for Torah, that is what a Jew does: CHOOSING in FREE WILL to FOLLOW THE HOLY TORAH, EXERCISING FREE WILL TO FOLLOW TORAH!

  21. Next time you hear from our “best friends” when they say they want Israel to be “Democratic” and “Jewish” with “Secure” borders just remember words of Lavan to Yakov:
“Why have you fled secretly, and concealed from me, and not told me? I would have sent you away with joy and with songs, and with drum and with harp.” These are the same claims we heard in 1940s from European governments and Jewish “leaders” that they wanted to protect us from antisemitism when they told us to assemble on train stations with out families and suitcases. We know were we will end up if we listen to them.

  22. Kerry is stating the obvious. If Arabs can vote Israel will cease to be a Jewish state if they can’t vote it will cease to be a Democratic one. The Arabs will not disappear. Building settlements aggravates the problem. Rav Shach was against settlement construction and Gedolei Yisrael have opposed Amona.
