Due to the serious oil refinery fire that broke out on Sunday morning 25 Kislev in a Haifa refinery, Haifa Mayor Yonah Yahav sent an urgent letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu explaining adding anything to the current situation would be superfluous.

The mayor calls on the Prime Minister to “use the full weight of your authority to prevent the expansion of the refineries and to remove the Ammonia tank from the area”.

The mayor adds it is time for action and not to play with the fate of over 1 million Haifa residents.

Back in 2013, then Minister of Homefront Security Gilad Erdan called to move the ammonia tank from Haifa as planned at a time when a horrific explosion occurred in a Texas fertilizer plant. In 2016, Hizbullah commander Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah threatened to strike Haifa’s ammonia tank in the next round of warfare with Israel.
