Authorities stopped a VW van for a routine inspection at the entrance to the Israeli Arab municipality of Shfaram. As the police were reviewing the driver’s papers they detected he was transporting chickens. When they took a closer look, they learned 400 chickens were stuffed into the van, which did not have the required permits to transport live chickens.

The driver and passenger, both in their 20s, were detained and taken to Nazareth Police for questioning. The chickens were turned over to veterinary officials. At the time of this report, the origin of the chickens remains a mystery.
