Litzman’s Response To The Arad Shul Attack

1During the urgent kenos in Arad on Monday, 12 Kislev, Health Minister Yaakov Litzman addressed the forum, addressing an attack against a Gur Beis Medrash in the southern city this past Shabbos, an attack attributed to secular youths.

In his remarks, Litzman stated the frum tzibur dare not view the incident as an isolated one, warning “Today it is Arad and tomorrow it will be Yerushalayim”, insisting the response must be a most audible one to prevent such abhorrent acts from reoccurring elsewhere.

One of the possible responses discussed is all Jews around Israel davening musaf outside in the street, stating Gedolei Yisrael must be consulted to ascertain if they would approve such a move, which Litzman stated would only take 15 minutes but deliver a powerful response around the country.

It appears all but certain that whatever is decided will be a great deal larger than the attack that occurred, as Litzman and many others feel they cannot permit such an act to pass without the entire frum tzibur expressing its outrage.

  1. This story lacks factual information.

This large, community built, Ashkenazic shul was used by the residents of Arad and under the auspices of Rav Bentzion Lipsker who passed away recently.

Approximately two years ago when Ger Chassidim moved into the kehilla they eyed this shul as their own. When the Mayor and City Council would not relent and give it to them – they forcefully and militantly took over the premise & barred entrance to the original mispalilim. MK Litzman has been involved since the beginning and has not ventured any solution EXCEPT vote in a new Mayor and religious council. This post is full of inaccuracies and lies to incite other kehillos which are living together peacefully and compromising.

Yes, the Chassidim need a shul YET not this one which belongs to others.
