MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Yaakov Asher is concerned about the consumer and this is what led to his initiative, a bill demanding scales for shoppers in supermarkets. He explains that today, when one buys loose items by weight, their bags are weighed at the checkout and often, the weight in the bag does not resemble what a shopper intended to buy but to make a change at checkout is complicated. Persons will usually make do with what they have or leave the item behind.
Asher feels this is long overdue, to permit shoppers to buy what they wish and not have to guestimate weights in major stores. He explains the bill will only pertain to large stores, those that can afford the scales and having to allocate space to make them available to shoppers.

I remember stores used to have scales in the vegetable section. That was 20-30 years ago.
