The Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee on Monday 5 Kislev gave its approval to reduce Mandatory IDF service for men, cutting service from 32 months to 30 months beginning in 2020. The last cut in service was recently, only in 2015, when it was cut from 36 months to 32 months.

Part of the reason for the move is the decision to bring more women into combat units, permitting the military to release the men earlier.

The new regulation will begin with the draft of men into the IDF in 2020.
