Israel Police and Israel Prison Authority announced on Sunday 4 Kislev that they are removing objections to the early release of former President Moshe Katsav, who has been turned down for early release a number of times.
According to a Channel 10 News report, the change in the position of the two agencies will significantly increase the former president’s chance of early release in the coming weeks.
In fact, Katsav is scheduled to appear before a parole board once again in two weeks and many believe that the new situation will permit his release this time around.
The former president felt he should be released after serving two-thirds of his seven-year sentence but many do not agree, for they feel a former senior public official must he held to a higher standard and a president convicted of assaulting women should not be able to earn early release.
