Jerusalem City Hall is going to be installing traffic cams for the purpose of nabbing motorists traveling in public transportation lanes in their private vehicles. These lanes are designated for buses and taxis. Such lanes can be found in Ramot, on Derech Chevron and on King George Street.
The city has decided to use its newly-acquired authorization, to enforce the law in public transportation lane. Recent Knesset legislation has empowered City Halls to enforce these vehicular laws, which once in the exclusive control of the national government.
The cameras will photograph the vehicle and license plate along with time/date stamping it. The photos will be accepted as proof in court. The fine will likely be NIS 500. The money generated by the fines will go into the city’s treasury, not the national government.
The city plans to announce where the cameras are going to be installed and there will be a sign warning motorists before each camera.

When will they enforce parking on the sidewalk? The is a widespread belief among Israeli drivers that there is nothing wrong with a car climbing up on the sidewalk. It is very dangerous for pedestrians.
