Yesh Atid party leader MK Yair Lapid has announced he will not support the Muezzin Bill which seeks to set a maximum volume on mosque loudspeakers for he views the bill as being offensive to Islam. They bill was removed from the Knesset schedule last week and is now set for its preliminary vote in Knesset on Wednesday, 29 Cheshvan. Lapid made his announcement on Tuesday, explaining the bill is offensive to the religious traditions of Islam. Mr. Lapid used Facebook to express his opinion in this case.
He added that it is not always justifiable for loudspeakers to be as loud as they are but this is been the custom for decades. He feels the timing is not coincidental but an intentional effort to insult Muslims and Lapid refuses to be a part of this.
