The Chutzpah Of El Al Pilots Grounds A Flight At Ben-Gurion

1El Al pilots on Sunday implemented job actions at the expense of many of the airline’s passengers. On Sunday, flight 027 from Tel Aviv scheduled to take off during the evening hours was grounded, leaving passengers stranded. Once again, the job action surrounds pilots’ demands for a salary increase. The cancelation of that flight led to the cancelation of another flight that was to head to Israel from NYC on Monday.

Pilots used Facebook to apologize to travelers but their words did little for stranded passengers at the airport and elsewhere. The pilots for flight 027 simply did not arrived for the flight, compelling the airline to ground the flight.

The pilots will in the coming days decide if a ‘work dispute’ will be called. In the meantime, numerous flights have been canceled due to job actions in recent months. El Al blames the job actions for its poor rating as the worst airline regarding timely service.

  1. Any idea what they get paid?!!! It’s not chutzpah – it’s greediness. Another reason to reign in the unions. They are out of touch and out of control. Flights are mostly automated anyway nowadays. Sack them and get people who need and want the job more.

  2. Flew on elal via Toronto this past Tuesday night. They had an archaic leased plane with seats that didn’t recline. Had return tickets on Thursday night via Newark. Of course the pilots went in strike and we didn’t leave until Friday morning. Got home one hour before shabbos. Would neve EVER fly with them again! .

  3. I feel bad for the stranded passengers but I’m elated that ELAL is getting their fair due and becoming frustrated with their ratings. THey treat passengers horribly and deserve to get hit hard!
Switch to Delta – they’re deserving of the business. Nice and caring staff, treat passengers royally as though they do appreciate their business. And their seats are nice and comfy too!

  4. Reagan fired all of the air traffic controllers.

The tie of this article sounds like something from the gemarra in Gittin: did these pilots make a hole in the front of the plane, and then send it to the authorities for a preflight inspection?
