Bayit Yehudi party leader Minister Naftali Bennett announced that if the High Court of Justice does not rescind the ruling compelling the destruction of Amona, his party will push legislation in the Ministerial Law Committee to circumvent the court and legalize the community to prevent the expulsion and destruction.
While Bennett himself has not said so, some of his colleagues in Bayit Yehudi have announced if the cabinet does not save Amona, Bayit Yehudi will bring down the coalition.
The court-imposed deadline for carrying out the expulsion is December 25, 2016. Seeking to buy time, the state has filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking additional time to find a solution to matter.
To date, all Amona residents have rejected government efforts to relocate the community to another venue, insisting “Amona will not fall again”.
