Greenfield Joins Forces With Brooklyn Housing and Family Services to Provide Mortgage Counseling

gfnCouncilman David G. Greenfield is again partnering with Brooklyn Housing and Family Services to provide one-on-one mortgage counseling to residents of Borough Park, Midwood and Bensonhurst this week. On Thursday, November 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., an attorney will be available at Greenfield’s Boro Park office to meet with homeowners who are in danger of losing their homes or have encountered changes in their financial circumstances. Appointments can be made by calling Greenfield’s office at (718) 853-2704.

“I am very happy to be able to offer this important service for my constituents,” said Greenfield. “Financial stress, life changes, and other circumstances can cause people to fall behind on their mortgage payments, too often resulting in unnecessary foreclosures. Hardworking families should not have to lose their homes. That’s why I am partnering with Brooklyn Housing and Family Services to bring mortgage advice directly to my constituents.”

Greenfield also offers by-appointment assistance at his district office each month for those who need legal assistance with immigration-related issues. The attorney is available to provide help with issues including naturalization, relative petitions, adjustment of status, consular processing, certificates of citizenship, replacement of lost or damaged documents, visa lottery entries, fee waiver applications and consultations on other immigration-related issues. He has also partnered with the New York Legal Assistance Group to assist his constituents with legal issues regarding government programs.

Mortgage counseling appointments will provide Brooklyn residents the opportunity to meet with an experienced attorney to discuss credit or budget issues, predatory lending, interest rate issues, late mortgage payments and foreclosure prevention. Those making appointments are asked to bring photo identification and all relevant documentation regarding the mortgage to be discussed.

“By partnering with Brooklyn Housing and Family Services, we have been able to help dozens of families address serious financial challenges,” Greenfield said. “We are proud to continue that tradition. Anyone who needs mortgage advice should contact my office immediately.”

Meetings with a Brooklyn Housing and Family Services attorney are by appointment only. Anyone in need of legal assistance is urged to contact Councilman Greenfield’s office at (718) 853-2704 to schedule a confidential meeting.
