Health Minister Yaakov Litzman on Sunday announced his party will link its support for the state budget to a government commitment that a minimum of ten percent of public housing is allocated exclusively for the chareidi tzibur.
Litzman explained his party’s position during an interview on Kol Berama Radio, explaining he and his colleagues are less than pleased with the ‘Machir LaMishtachen’ project which permits anyone to qualify for an apartment. This means a non-frum person can obtain an apartment in an area that should be exclusively chareidi.
Litzman cites the ongoing machlokes in Jerusalem’s Kiryat Yovel as an example of what will occur if non-frum and chareidi residents are living side-by-side as they clash due to an obvious difference in agendas regarding infrastructure and lifestyle.

It is outrageous that a government minister should suggest “quotas” for members of a particular group and rules that would restrict where yidden can live in EY. His suggestion to engage in some insidious form of ethnic (aka non-Chareidi) cleansing is reminiscent of the programs of some others Y’S to do the same to ALL yidden. Any yid should be able to live anywhere in EY and all should have equal access to government housing assistance. If Litzman wants his own ghetto, let him buy the land, build his own housing and engage in this type of behavior.
