Rabbi Chaim Amsellem, who heads the Am Shalem party and is vying for a slot on the Bayit Yehudi party list in the next elections, commented on the harsh verbal assault against Bayit Yehudi. As report by YWN-ISRAEL, Chevron Rosh Yeshiva HaGaon HaRav David Cohen Shlita blames Bayit Yehudi for supporting the candidacy of Rabbi David Stav in the race for Chief Rabbi of Israel.
Rabbi Cohen refers to Rabbi Stav as a “Reform rabbi”. Rav Cohen made his remarks during a live broadcasted shiur on motzei Shabbos as a guest of Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita.
Rabbi Amsellem spoke with the dati leumi Srugim website, explaining that despite the “brazen slander” against Bayit Yehudi and Rabbi Stav, the religious media remains silent, while some believe it is proper to remain silent but he, Rabbi Amsellem, feels this is not so.
“We must protest the honor of Torah and talmidei chachamim” exclaims Rabbi Amsellem.
Amsellem was ousted from Shas during the 18th Knesset and his party ran to enter the 19th Knesset but was unsuccessful. He has now aligned himself with Bayit Yehudi ahead of the primaries for the 21st Knesset.
