Rosh Yeshivas Chevron HaGaon HaRav David Cohen Shlita on Motzei Shabbos addressed the yahrzeit of Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L. Rav Cohen spoke in the framework of the weekly shiur of Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita, which was aired live.

Rav Cohen spoke out in the harshest terms against the dati leumi Bayit Yehudi party, which backed Rabbi David Stav in his bid to become the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, referring to Rav Stav as a “Reform rabbi”.

Rav Cohen also addressed the elections for the Jerusalem Chief Rabbis, hinting to Rav Ovadia’s opposition to the appointment of HaGaon HaRav Aryeh Stern Shlita as the Jerusalem Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi. He added that Rav Ovadia would not even agree to a deal that would have resulted in one of his sons receiving the post as Sephardi Chief Rabbi of the capital because it would have led to Rav Stern being Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi.
