Residents of Amona on Motzei Shabbos protested outside the homes of a number of cabinet ministers on Motzei Shabbos, including the head of the Bayit Yehudi party, Naftali Bennett. The residents reminded the head of the dati leumi party that their homes and community is slated for destruction by the end of the Gregorian year, calling on Bennett to prevent the second destruction of Amona.
Bennett came out and met with protestors and spoke of his efforts to push legislation to prevent implementation of the High Court of Justice ruling.
Some of the protestors were outside the home of Likud Minister Yariv Levin, who also came out to speak with them. He explained Likud cabinet ministers will not present the passage of Bennett’s efforts on behalf of Amona.
Likud Minister Miri Regev also met with protestors, explaining she has already spoken with Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked and she remains confident it is possible to prevent the destruction of the community by introducing the correct legislation to circumvent the High Court ruling.
There have been reports the state plans to request an extension from the High Court but this has not occurred to date and even if it does, it is unlikely an extension will be granted since the demolition order follows several previous extensions.
