A newspaper is reporting that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton have been renovating a house they bought next to their suburban New York home without obtaining several required permits.
The Clintons purchased the house in Chappaqua for $1.16 million in August.
The Journal News reports that town building department records show that a swimming pool at the house has been filled in, the kitchen has been renovated and new lighting has been installed, all without permits.
The newspaper says a building inspector visited the house Oct. 5 after his department received a complaint.
The Journal News obtained the building department records through a state Freedom of Information Law request.
The newspaper says a Clinton representative did not return requests for comment.

What’s the big deal? The principle that the royal family is not subject to local regulation was well established under New York law through most of the 18th century, and was never formally repealed. Only someone deplorable or fanatically liberarian would even think to question which family has come to replace the Stuarts and Hannovers.
Do you honestly think that any of these Democrat-Clinton fanatics give a hoot about illegalities? They don’t even care about Benghazi, emails or countless unexplained deaths of their enemies. So what does a new lampshade matter?
As a reluctant – very reluctant, nose-holding – Clinton voter, I am surprised that the Clintons would not have the simple sense to get the little things right, e.g., getting permits for alterations to their homes, since they get so many of the big things wrong.
I wonder whether Donald ever builds without permits. Of all the things that have been revealed about him, skipping permits is not one of them, as far as I know. Not that that makes him fit to be president.
