It is reported that the border fence maintenance worker killed by mistaken gunfire across the border from Egypt on Tuesday, 23 Tishrei, was Nimer Bassem Abu Amar, 15. The youth was employed by a private contractor who is hired by the Defense Ministry to maintain the border fence between Israel and Egypt in that area.
Nimer was flown in an air force chopper to the trauma unit of Soroka Medical Center where he died of his injuries.
As reported by YWN-ISRAEL, gunfire originated from the Mount Harif area, striking the fence youth, who reportedly made coffee for the maintenance workers.
After probing the fatal event, the IDF announced the fatal incident was not an act of terror but the result of mistaken gunfire as Egyptian officials believed the fence workers were smugglers.
