Immediately following Sukkos, the Yachad party headed by former Shas leader Eli Yishai is going to launch a national registration campaign, hoping to attract new registered members followed by party primaries. This in preparation for the next Knesset elections as Yishai seeks to revive himself and make a return to the political arena.
According to the Ynet report, the planned move enjoys the support of the party’s rav, HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita, Rosh Yeshivas Kisei Rachamim. What is unique about the process however is the fact that the members of Yachad and not Rav Mazuz or other rabbonim will decide on the party’s lineup. In Shas and Yahadut Hatorah, the party list is determined by the respective Moetzas Gedolei Hatorah but it appears this will not be the case with Yachad.
Party leaders are hopeful that in the first nationwide registration effort they will succeed in signing up at least 10,000 members.
