“This evening, members of the Jewish community will come together across New York to usher in Yom Kippur, the culmination of the High Holy Days. Yom Kippur provides a time to reflect and prepare for the year to come, and to wish each other a traditional Gmar Chatima Tova, may you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.
“On this Day of Atonement, we devote time to reflect upon our past, present and future, both the good and the bad, and what sustains us through times of adversity.
“As New Yorkers, we share values that bind us together as one community. Our shared New York experience allows us to collectively work for and achieve the greater good to further the principles of Tikkun Olam.
“In the year ahead, we must uphold the values that make New York a beacon of equality, justice and fairness for all. Our differences and diversity are our strengths and what makes New York New York, because with every challenge, we always come together. It is who we are.
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend warm wishes for a meaningful day and an easy fast to those observing. Gmar Chatima Tova.”
