The accompanying video shows a major Chilul Hashem that occurred on an El Al flight to Uman before Rosh Hashanah, the unacceptable actions of some of the passengers on board and the need for the pilot to personally intervene as the situation got out of hand.
In his report on the flight, the pilot explains the strong smell of drugs on board compelled him to make an unscheduled landing in Turkey, fearing someone(s) was smoking on the flight. He explains “the atmosphere was violent and the plane and passengers were in danger”, explaining the decision to land in Ankara, adding “It felt as if we were transporting criminals”.
The pilot added “El Al makes handsome profits by flying these chassidim, but, and I add this emphatically, if such trends continue, El Al will lose a plane due to the unbridled behavior of a group of criminals”. However, he emphasized an important point, “I believe that this does not represent the majority of these passengers”.

Major chillul Hashem??? There’s no proof of it at all. Please! It’s after Rosh Hashanah, no reason to speak lashon hara just because the pilot decided so and calls them criminals.

The only people who don’t see the chillul hashem here are those who also do drugs and don’t know how to sit down properly during a flight. A flight is not the time to dance an d shout. And how do you think the Turkish authorities viewed that unscheduled forced landing. The IAA should ban all charter and additional scheduled flights to Ukraine next year from 10 days before Rosh Hashana.

With this many stutterers on one flight, of course there will be misunderstandings about seats.
All joking aside, my cousin is a senior flight attendant for El Al first class, & he dreads being assigned to the Uman flight. While not frum himself, he has tremendous respect for Chassidim & is extremely knowledgeable about their needs, but he says the passengers are out of control. He is the most senior crew member after the pilots, and says the passengers are loud & disrespectful to others (as seen in the video.)
Yes, probably the pilot didn’t need to intervene here, but based on previous experience he must have been afraid there would be real trouble. Instead of supporting their freilchkeit, perhaps posters should berate the passengers involved in the dispute.
