Israel’s High Court to Rule on Olmert’s Petition Regarding Talansky Case

olmert serious.jpgThe High Court of Justice on Wednesday, 25 Elul, is expected to announce its verdict in the case of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and the request for a retrial in the Talansky cash envelopes case.

Olmert began serving a 19-month prison term in February 2016 and the decision of the court today will determine if an additional eight months is added onto the sentence, bringing it to 27 months.

Background
The former Prime Minister was sentenced to an eight-month term after being found guilty of accepting bribes in the Talansky retrial. The 18-month sentence is from his conviction in the Holyland real estate case. There is an addition one-month imprisonment as per a plea agreement in the Shula Zaken testimony tapes case. While most feel this is most unlikely, there is also the possibility of adding an additional half year for the 2012 conviction in an investment fraud case.
