Vishnitz Chassidus officials have decided to back out of a major building project in the Shomron community of Emanuel. According to the Kikar Shabbos report, the decision followed long and hard consideration by askanim and others, who presented the deal to the rebbe as part of efforts to alleviate the severe housing shortage in the chassidus. The report states the askanim made the announcement on Wednesday night 18 Elul after the Rebbe Shlita informed them he cannot give his approval for the project.
Addressing the housing shortage remains a major priority for askanim in the chassidus and it was hopeful the project in Emanuel would serve their needs. The only major project of the chassidus in recent years has been in Afula and it was hoped Emanuel would get the green light. Hundreds of families signed on for the project, but the rebbe would not give his stamp of approval after weighing all considerations, including the fact the city is surrounded by Arab communities in the Shomron.
