Jerusalem Councilman (Shas) Nachmiel Saban on Tuesday afternoon 17 Elul submitted his resignation to City Hall. According to reports, Shas party leader Aryeh Deri was notified of the planned move in advance.

In his letter of resignation to Mayor Nir Barkat, Saban simply states that in line with paragraph 106 of the city law, he is resigning from the city council and its committees. Copies of the letter were sent to Deri as well as faction leader in the Jerusalem Council, Tzvika Cohen. Saban concludes his brief letter with

“באמונה שלמה בשלושה עשר עיקרים ובביאת המשיח במהרה בימינו אמן”.

At this time, the reason for the resignation is unclear. Shas is likely to announce his successor in the near future.
