Former MK Dr. Michael Ben-Ari and dozens of followers of the Otzma Yisrael party on Monday afternoon 16 Elul marched in the Israeli Arab municipality of Ara. An extremely large police force was on hand to keep the marchers and angry residents far from one another.
Among the party members taking part in the event were activists Baruch Marzel, Bentzion Gupstein and Honenu attorney Itamar Ben-Givir. The group march to the home of the family of the Dizengoff terrorist who perpetrated the terror attack in January 2016 that left two people dead HY”D, and others wounded. The terrorist, Nashat Melhem, was the subject of an intense manhunt and he was tracked down in northern Israel and eliminated.
The marchers explained the wanted to protest the widespread support given to the fugitive terrorist by his fellow villagers even after he murdered incident people in cold blood. Neighbors assisted him when he was on the run from security authorities as well.
Police turned down the application for the march months ago but Ben-Ari and his colleagues petitioned the High Court of Justice and it was during that hearing the sides reached agreement, that the march would be permitted but restricted to no more than 120 participants.
